This popular folk art, arte Wikárika, has achieved international recognition for its incredible colors & designs drawn from the Huichol people's deep respect for the natural world.

The Huichol or Wixáritari are an indigenous group who have lived in the central Mexican mountains of Jalisco, Nayarit, Durango, and Zacatecas for the past 15,000 years.

They are well-known for their colorful bead art, which adorns jewelry, masks, and even Volkswagens.

You won’t find any beaded Volkswagens at Kuruxi López’s store at 16 de Septiembre #1A in Ajijic. But you will find lots of wonderful examples of bracelets, necklaces, masks, figures, and earrings, all beaded by hand using the nature-inspired designs of the Wixáritari.
