This local bread gets its own annual festival in Ajijic.
Many areas or towns in Mexico have their local varieties of foods. Along the northwest shore of Lake Chapala, tachihual bread is made in bakeries and sold later in the afternoon on the street by people carrying large metal baskets covered with fabric. It’s a sweet bread, with some versions also caked in icing.
The Feria de Tachihual is a newer addition to the roster of many holidays and festivals that occur in Ajijic. Due to covid, the Feria hasn’t taken place recently. Hopefully, this event will return in the future.
